KG 德國門富士Adsale eBook - ITMA Asia + CITME 2010 Show Guide - Page - 8 - Show info ITMA Asia and CITME join hands to focus on Asia ITMA Asia與CITME聯展開拓亞洲市場 By Staff Reporters Over 1,100 textile and garment machinery manufacturers are exhibiting at the second edition of ITMA Asia + CITME 2010, taking up 100,000 square metres of Shanghai New International Expo Centre, Shanghai, China. In terms of sectors, spinning forms the largest, constituting around 30% of the exhibit space, followed by finishing (25%), knitting, garment making and textile processing (20%) and weaving (15%). Chinese exhibitors constitute the biggest country group at the show, which will be held from June 22 to 26. They have taken around 50% of the total exhibition space. Exhibitors from Europe form the next biggest contingent, taking up 35%, according to show owners – CEMATEX, CCPIT Sub-Council of Textile Industry (CCPIT-Tex), China Textile Machinery Association and China Exhibition Centre Group Corporation. Caption: ITMA Asia+ CITME expects a 10% growth in visitorship this year The exhibition is expected to attract trade visitorship of some 100,000, representing a 10% increase from the last combined show, which drew 90,000 from 96 countries and regions. Asia is the largest purchaser A period of heavy investments in most textile machinery segments between 2003 and 2007 came to an abrupt end in 2008. However, Asia was by far the largest buyer of textile machinery, the International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF) found. About 96% of spinning machines or 8.31 million of them were delivered to Asia. China installed 3.69 million or 43% of global shipments, followed by India (29%), Bangladesh (7%), Vietnam (6.5%), Indonesia (2.9%) and Pakistan (2.8%). Investments in shuttle-less looms were mostly made in Asia. Almost 40,000 or 90% of all machines went to Asia. Major buying countries were China (65%), India (~7%), Bangladesh (~7%), Indonesia (4%) and Brazil (2%). Likewise, 87% of circular knitting machines and 88% of electronic flat knitting machines were shipped to Asia. Against the background, global textile machinery builders are eager to foster their business networks with Asian clients at an international fair held in China, which is one of the most energetic country in the world at the moment. The industry contributes 4% to the country's GDP, 14% to the country's industrial production and around 12% to the country's foreign exchange earnings, according to a report commissioned by the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI) and the Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council (Texprocil). India's textile and apparel market reached estimated Rs 2.55 trillion, with exports accounting for 35% of the total market value. The industry depended heavily on exports to the 27 European Union members (EU27), which took up 33% of the total exports by value. The US was the second largest export market for Indian textile and apparel industry, purchasing 21% of India's total textile and apparel exports by value. However, the EU, US and other major overseas buyers were substantially affected by the global financial crisis last year and India sought to diversify its textile and apparel export markets. In order to revitalize the export-oriented textile industry of India that ships overseas about 60% of its products, improvement on cost competitiveness in the areas of technology and economies of scale for the Indian fabric and garment sectors to improve profitability was also beneficial to the industry. Searching for new buyers Industry observers believe that Indian apparel exporters should explore more markets, reducing trade dependence on EU27 and the US. Japan as a large apparel exporter, as well as Russia, may be a good prospect. Japan accounts for 1% of India's total textile and apparel export value in 2007-08. China being the major exporter to Japan in this field, shares over 70% of Japan's total textile and apparel imports, in accordance to the CITI/Texprocil report. Caption: Textile and apparel industry contributes 4% to India's GDP To facilitate the trade, India's Union Minister for Textiles Dayanidhi Maran led a delegation to Japan last July, with representatives of Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC), the Texprocil, the Synthetic and Rayon Textiles Promotion Council (SRTEPC), Knitwear Technology Mission, and leading textiles manufacturers and exporters from Tirupur and Coimbatore textiles clusters. Effective from January 2010, the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between India and the ASEAN paves the way for the creation of one of the world's largest free trade areas, of almost 1.8 billion people with a combined GDP of US$2.75 trillion, the ASEAN Secretariat stated. Under the agreement, tariffs on more than 80% of total imported goods will be reduced to zero by 2013, and another small proportion of goods will be given zero tariff by 2016, involving totally over 4,000 product items. India and ASEAN targeted to achieve bilateral trade of US$50 billion by 2010 from US$40 billion in 2007-08, the Indian Department of Commerce said. It is expected to bring economic benefits to the Indian industries including textile and apparel. The China Textile Industry Index (growth in 2003=100 points) recorded 97.9 points in the first quarter (Q1) of 2010, advancing 0.8 point from the previous quarter. The indicator is composed jointly by a research center under Economic Daily of China and the China Economic Monitoring & Analysis Center at the National Bureau of Statistics. China's Apparel Industry Index reached 98.9 points (growth in 2005=100 points) in the Q1, or 0.4 point more from the previous quarter. Meanwhile, the China Chemical Fiber Industry Index stood at 99.6 points (growth in 2005=100 points), rising 0.9 point from the previous quarter. The data showed positive growth in these three sectors, which have been backed by the Chinese government's supportive measures and a relatively robust domestic consumer market. Overall, China's textile and apparel exports slid 3.23% in value in 2009. Textile exports dropped 6.19% from the previous year, whereas those of apparel expanded 2.77%. Declines in chemical fiber exports and textile machinery were also registered in 2009 at 22% and 27.89% respectively. Despite declines in exports, textile enterprises in China maintained growth due to increases in domestic sales of textile and apparel goods, according to Du Yuzhou, President of the China National Textile & Apparel Council (CNTAC). The outlook of 2010 is relatively complicated, according to another senior official at the CNTAC early this year. He explained that the international economic environment is likely to turn better this year, but the adverse impact of the global economic crisis had not vanished. Unemployment in major developed countries remains high, and consumer markets have not yet fully recovered. Uncertainties may arise in the international trade. New economic trends like development in low-carbon emissions and balanced economic growths have an important impact on the Chinese textile and apparel industry. It is the world's fourth largest producer and the third largest consumer of cotton, according to Pegasus Consultancy, show organizer of the Megatech Pakistan 2010 exhibition held this March. Internally, Pakistan's textile industry contributes nearly 8.5% to the gross domestic product (GDP) while employing 39% of the total manufacturing workforce. The textile industry contributes over half to the country's total exports with textile exports worth US$ 7.21 billion and garment exports worth US$ 3.25 billion in 2008. However, the global economic recession, which decreased demand for goods and services worldwide, had negatively impacted on demand levels in developed countries, the markets for the majority of Pakistan's exports. The textile industry lost over 5% of its export earnings (US$578 million) in FY2008/09, with readymade garments the hardest hit (-18%, or US$221 million), the ADB stated. It was observed that Pakistan specializes in the production and export of products at the lower end of the textile range, the ADB stated. In addition, the report identified another two major disadvantages that hold back the development of the textile and apparel sector, which are labour productivity and relationship with customer, mainly overseas buyers. The report cited the tariff issue as hindrance, but a secondary one, noting that its competitors have outperformed Pakistan in markets where there is tariff parity. Energy issues were found not a major obstruction as other countries also faced their own problem to supply electricity. Further, some suggestions were outlined in the report. Pakistan should increase average value of export from US$1,000 to US$2,000 per bale of cotton by focusing on value-addition. Secondly, it should raise productivity by investing in management training and organizational efficiencies. Thirdly, the implementation of measures in National Textile Policy 2009 in regard to the apparel sector is crucial to promote the industrial development. Lastly, the country can consider developing strategic relationships with large retail or buying houses or develop a convenient sourcing platform for buyers from abroad. Furthermore, it should address the incoming and outgoing travel restrictions, which remain an essential component for facilitating customer relationship, the report stated. The country's per capita income was US$621 in the financial year (FY) of 2008-09, with a rise of US$62 compared to the previous year (2007-08), according to figures of the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS). The textile and apparel industry is one of the biggest sources of national economic revenue. About 75% of Bangladesh's total export earnings come from ready-made garment exports, according to experts at the World Bank. The major markets are North America and Europe. Ready-made garment made in the country are mainly divided into woven and knit products. Wovens are usually shirts, T-shirts and trousers, whereas knits from Bangladesh are mainly intimate wear, stockings, sweaters and casual wear. The apparel sector thereby grew phenomenally from US$3.5 million in 1981 to over US$10 billion per annum in recent years. In the previous fiscal year ended last June, Bangladeshi knitted and woven apparel exports reached US$12.35 billion, the government's Export Promotion Bureau said. Industry observers believed that as a number of Asian textile and apparel factories closed down partly due to higher wages and costs, some buyers shifted orders to new global sourcing destinations. Bangladesh was one of the beneficiaries. Looking ahead, Bangladesh has opportunities to boost apparel exports to the US and the EU countries where the demand for low cost apparel is increasing. However, it remains unsure how far the two major markets will improve their economies in 2010. Public policy is also crucial to boost Bangladeshi apparel industry. The government policy of liberalization of the economy encouraged private sector investments. Low cost energy and natural gas provides Bangladesh's textile industry with a competitive advantage in producing labor-intensive goods. A large domestic market is also an advantage for the country's apparel industry. Cheap and abundant labour forces have been an advantage for Bangladesh's apparel industry. Wage of the garment workers was last reviewed in 2006 to Tk 1662. With the rising living cost in these years and unrest among the workers during 2008 and 2009, a number of leading international buyers, including WalMart, H&M, Levis, Nike and Tesco, expressed concerns in early January over the issue of wages in the country. They wrote a letter to the country's Prime Minister for this matter. The wage issue affects over 4,000 factories and three million workers. China's textile machinery builders were also encouraged by the launch of supportive governmental plan (announced in April 2009) to adjust and strengthen the textile and garment industry in the years from 2009 to 2011. Further support is given to selective segments in the Chinese textile machinery industry under the latest directive announced in December 2009, which was formulated to achieve objectives lay down by the April 2009 plan. Under the recent directive, a number of textile machinery was selected as important areas for further development (More information can be found in ATA Journal Feb/Mar 2010 on page 42). Gao Yong, president of the China Textile Machinery Association (CTMA), shared his views on the current business environment in the country. ATA: ATA Journal Mr Gao: Gao Yong ATA: How do you look at the current textile industry in China? Mr Gao: Some economic indicators in the country's textile industry bounced back in the first few months of 2009 and we are looking forward to a positive future of the industry. Mr Gao: The global economy turned down in 2009 and the textile industry was negatively impacted. The Chinese textile industry is undergoing faster optimization to phase out obsolete capacity and to spur further technological upgrade. ATA: What's the significance holding the international textile machinery exhibition this year? Mr Gao: The year 2010 lies in the middle of the three-year plan (announced in April 2009) to readjust and revitalize the Chinese textile and textile machinery industries. Technologically upgrading the textile industry is expected to bring a new wave of opportunity to China's textile machinery manufacturers and the country will be a focal point of textile machinery builders from around the world. The market potential presented in China's textile industry has nurtured the second cooperation of ITMA Asia and CITME industrial exhibitions of textile machinery this year. The “readjustment and revitalization” plan of China has pinpointed selected fields in need of more technological progress, such as weaving, printing, dyeing and chemical fiber, as well as the development of high-tech fibers and industrial textiles. These expansionary measures have also given confidence to the international textile machinery builders in the feeble global economy. ATA: What value-added services are provided at this exhibition? Mr Gao: We are providing exhibitors more and better services. For instance, 18 items of free services are offered, compared to 15 in the previous edition. Q: How were textile machinery manufacturers affected by the financial and economic crisis? Mr Ameline: The industrial equipment sector is extremely cyclical and our companies have to adapt to major investment phases like in 2006 and 2007 and to brutal stops but no one could have expected such the sudden crash that began in the summer of 2008. In 2009 our companies have seen their turnover go down by 30% on average with extreme as high as 50%. Caption: Bruno Ameline Q: How is the current sentiment among machinery manufacturers in Europe? Mr Ameline: I think the industry is on the road to recovery. Asian countries like China and India have already recovered, the US seems to emerge from the slump as Europe even if it is a bit slower here. We see warmer prospects since the end of 2009. Spare parts business is getting back to usual levels up which means the utilization of the existing production facilities has improved, orders for new machines also and many new projects are under discussion. I expect at least a 10% rebound in the first semester of 2010 compared with the very low figures of 2009 and a more robust rebound end of 2010 and in 2011. This general forecast need to be detailed and contrasted: - By region: the crisis was rather short in China and other Asian countries which started to recover as early as spring 2009, the US are expected to recover soon, Europe will follow. - By application sectors: technical textiles particularly the ones associated with infrastructure projects, the protection of the environment or energy savings will do better than textile for apparel and the home market. Q: How are the French textile machinery manufacturers well positioned to take advantage of the recovery? Mr Ameline: Generally speaking, our companies are well positioned for the future because even if, during the crisis, we have carefully managed our cash reserves, and continued to invest in R and D in close relationship or partnership with our clients all over the world. We also have worked very closely with machinery manufacturers offering complementary technologies to offer our customers a “single point of purchase”. More and more, our clients want to get a complete solution, shop for complete lines or even complete plants. We have understood this trend for several years and adapted our offer. Q: Do you feel competition from Asian machinery manufacturers will intensify? Ms Cholet: The Chinese machinery manufacturers have already an important market share on their national market and they are very active exporting, mainly in Asia. For high volume commodity products, Chinese and other Asian manufacturers offer low cost machines with short payback. We cannot compete on these markets but stick to our strategy of specialized manufacturers aiming at niche markets with a tailor made approach to address in depth customers' needs. About 105 exhibitors the German companies are exhibiting their latest innovations on an exhibition area of 5,000 square meters, representing the biggest European group within the CEMATEX countries, VDMA says. The association observed that Asia is a prime market of textile machinery. About 55% of the overall exports in 2009 representing 1.8 billion euros went to Asia. The two big volume markets alone, China and India, imported German textile machinery and accessories of about 628 and 161 million euros respectively. In January and February 2010, the exports to China rose 37% to 83 million euros compared to the same period the year before. Besides China, exports to other Asian countries were also positive: Iran 6.8 million euros (+50%), Thailand 4.1 million euros (+42%), Vietnam 1.7 million euros (+35%) and Bangladesh 2.7 million euros (+8%). Thomas Waldmann, Managing Director of the VDMA Textile Machinery Association, recently told ATA Journal that the German textile machinery builders had observed pick-ups in the market these months. The predicted turnover for the German textile machinery branch sees an increase of 30-35% in 2010. ATA: What are some possible concerns for the textile machinery industry? Mr Waldmann: Financing of investments will remain a challenge for the textile industry in the time ahead - a result of the global financial crisis. Obstacles for the textile industry do affect the business of machinery manufacturers. Protectionist tendencies could also slow down the machinery as well as the textile business. They have been selected following a survey of over 33,700 respondents from all walks of life in Shanghai last year The Bund ­- Zhongshan Road The Bund on the riverbank of Huangpu is home of various historical buildings demonstrating “world architecture” in Shanghai. A river cruise can take you through this glamorous part of Shanghai, which had its first golden days in the 1920s. Yuyuan Garden - 218 Anren Road Finished in 1577 by a government officer of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) named Pan Yunduan, the 20,000-square-meter Yuyuan Garden is a famous classical garden located in Shanghai. After a five-year restoration project, the garden was open to the public in 1961. Lujiazui - Pudong Lujiazui is the newly developed financial area of Pudong in Shanghai. A number of landmarks were built on this new land of the city, such as Shanghai World Financial Center and the Oriental Pearl TV Tower. Shanghai World Financial Center, located at 100 Century Avenue, Pudong, is one of the highest skyscrapers in China. It is currently the third-tallest building in the world. The Oriental Pearl TV Tower, meanwhile, is one of the most recognizable landmarks in Shanghai. At 468 meters high, it was the tallest structure in China from 1994–2007. Shanghai shopping streets - Nanjing Road pedestrian walkway The 1,033-meter-long pedestrian walkway of Nanjing Road is marked by the Bund and the People's Square on both ends. More than 600 shops are available on both sides of the walkway and it is a reflection of the growing affluence of the Chinese consumers. Shikumen or stone gate Shikumen or stone-gate houses on narrow alleys of a road were a hallmark of old Shanghai. An area of stone-gate houses adjacent to Xintiandi become the finest example of blending the old and the new in the rapidly growing city of China. Xintiandi itself is a privately developed area known for its fine dining, active nightlife and entertainment. Fengjing town of water Off the bustle and hustle of Shanghai city area, visitors can enjoy a quieter afternoon in one of the “towns of water” near Shanghai. With a history of more than 1,500 years and once a key connection between Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces, Fengjing town is filled with bridges, temples and lanes. Dianshan lake resort area - Dianshan Lake Area, Qingpu District The area is a nationally top-rated scenic spot with an ancient grandeur garden and other historic relics. Religious culture - Jade Buddha Temple 170 Anyuan Road Being a Buddhist temple, Jade Buddha Temple was founded in 1882 with two jade Buddha statues imported from old Burma by sea in the Qing Dynasty. Shanghai Expo runs for 184 days between May 1 and October 31 and is predicted to attract around 70 million visitors. World Expo's are the third largest event in the world in terms of economic and cultural impact after the FIFA World Cup and the Olympic Games. Shanghai World Expo 2010 is expected to generate the largest number of visitors in the history of the world's fairs in terms of gross numbers. The number of participants consists of countries, corporations and for the first time Cities, spread over an area of 5.28 square kilometers. Ticketing The Expo tickets are available for purchase either during the Expo session or in advance. Several kinds of tickets are available, allowing visitors to admit the expo for one single day, three consecutive days and seven consecutive days. The standard prices range around RMB 100-700 on normal days. Tickets during the peak periods are more expensive, i.e. days during the holidays of May 1 and October 1. Evening admission tickets are sold during the Expo session. How to get there? By car No parking lots for private cars are set up in the Site and its immediate vicinity. Only vehicles with Expo passes are allowed in. To ease traffic around the Site, 31 new one-way routes are added. Five major P+R (park and ride) lots at Shanghai International Circuit, Hongqiao Transport Hub and Songjiang District will accommodate 10,000 cars. By metro Five Metro lines arrive near the Expo Site, with the still-under-construction Line 13 taking passengers to three stations within the site: two on the Puxi side and one in Pudong. Line 13, which has three stations, will run at six-minute intervals and about three-minute intervals during peak periods. Expo ticket holders can take the trains free after security checks at the Madang Road Station, where it connects with Line 9 in Puxi. The six-carriage trains can carry 40,000 passengers per hour. Lines 4, 6, 7, 8 and 9 are expected to carry 100,000 riders per hour to nine stations near the Site during peak times. The lines run until midnight. Free shuttle buses take people between the stations and Site. The taxis will offer services to people inside the Site where private cars are off-limits. The Site will be open to other taxis after 9 pm. National pavilions At the Shanghai World Expo, visitors can explore numerous country pavilions built in splendid designs. Below the main structure, there is a 45,000-square-meter joint pavilion featuring displays from local provinces, cities and regions. The 160,000-square-meter pavilion will be converted into a museum for Chinese history and culture after the Expo closes. Germany The 6,000-square-meter structure is Germany's largest at any Expo. The theme of the pavilion is “Balancity”. The walls of the square-shaped structure, which is made from a special concrete, are covered in plants and it looks like a white floating palace. Gardens are the centerpiece of the pavilion. Moreover, the French Pavilion appears to be a floating palace in the beauty rhyme with water. India The Indian pavilion, with around 4,000 square meters, has a crimson central dome, symbolizing the theme “Unity in Diversity” in India. A focus throughout the exhibit is on interaction between rural and urban areas through exchange of goods and services. Under a theme of “Cities of Harmony”, visitors can experience a journey of Indian cities from ancient times through medieval periods to modern India, as the pavilion showcases India’s rich cultural heritage, its diversity of faith, culture and language, traditional and modern technological development and urban-rural interface. Italy The design of the Italian Pavilion, themed “City of Man”, is inspired by the children’s game “pick-up sticks”, which is known as “Shanghai” in Italy. The rectangular pavilion has been laced with intersecting lines - representing pick-up sticks. It comprises 20 functional modules of different shapes, bounded by the “sticks”. They represent Italy's 20 regions. Switzerland A combination of technological insight and beautiful dream, Swiss Pavilion shows the characteristics of modern Switzerland, including the pursuit of excellence, innovation and high-quality life, as well as concepts of future facing, forward looking and sustainable development. In a nutshell, it demonstrates the rural and urban interaction in the modern world. Hong Kong The three-story metallic structure explores the theme “Hong Kong - the Infinite City”. The exhibition focuses on the special administrative region's transport network, advanced scientific facilities, financial and trade systems, multinational culture and sustainable high-quality urban life. Highlights include environmental protection, tourism, culture, innovation and the “one country, two systems” principle. Show info ITMA Asia and CITME join hands to focus on Asia ITMA Asia與CITME聯展開拓亞洲市場 By Staff Reporters Over 1,100 textile and garment machinery manufacturers are exhibiting at the second edition of ITMA Asia + CITME 2010, taking up 100,000 square metres of Shanghai New International Expo Centre, Shanghai, China. In terms of sectors, spinning forms the largest, constituting around 30% of the exhibit space, followed by finishing (25%), knitting, garment making and textile processing (20%) and weaving (15%). Chinese exhibitors constitute the biggest country group at the show, which will be held from June 22 to 26. They have taken around 50% of the total exhibition space. Exhibitors from Europe form the next biggest contingent, taking up 35%, according to show owners – CEMATEX, CCPIT Sub-Council of Textile Industry (CCPIT-Tex), China Textile Machinery Association and China Exhibition Centre Group Corporation. Asia is the largest purchaser A period of heavy investments in most textile machinery segments between 2003 and 2007 came to an abrupt end in 2008. However, Asia was by far the largest buyer of textile machinery, the International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF) found. About 96% of spinning machines or 8.31 million of them were delivered to Asia. China installed 3.69 million or 43% of global shipments, followed by India (29%), Bangladesh (7%), Vietnam (6.5%), Indonesia (2.9%) and Pakistan (2.8%). Investments in shuttle-less looms were mostly made in Asia. Almost 40,000 or 90% of all machines went to Asia. Major buying countries were China (65%), India (~7%), Bangladesh (~7%), Indonesia (4%) and Brazil (2%). Likewise, 87% of circular knitting machines and 88% of electronic flat knitting machines were shipped to Asia. Against the background, global textile machinery builders are eager to foster their business networks with Asian clients at an international fair held in China, which is one of the most energetic country in the world at the moment. Regional updates – India India seeks to diversify markets in Japan and ASEAN 印度加強東南亞合作 實現貿易多元化 by Staff Reporters and Ajay Sinha The Indian textile and apparel industry is currently one of the largest and most important industries in the Indian economy in terms of output, foreign exchange earnings and employment. The industry contributes 4% to the country's GDP, 14% to the country's industrial production and around 12% to the country's foreign exchange earnings, according to a report commissioned by the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI) and the Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council (Texprocil). India's textile and apparel market reached estimated Rs 2.55 trillion, with exports accounting for 35% of the total market value. The industry depended heavily on exports to the 27 European Union members (EU27), which took up 33% of the total exports by value. The US was the second largest export market for Indian textile and apparel industry, purchasing 21% of India's total textile and apparel exports by value. However, the EU, US and other major overseas buyers were substantially affected by the global financial crisis last year and India sought to diversify its textile and apparel export markets. In order to revitalize the export-oriented textile industry of India that ships overseas about 60% of its products, improvement on cost competitiveness in the areas of technology and economies of scale for the Indian fabric and garment sectors to improve profitability was also beneficial to the industry. Searching for new buyers Industry observers believe that Indian apparel exporters should explore more markets, reducing trade dependence on EU27 and the US. Japan as a large apparel exporter, as well as Russia, may be a good prospect. Japan accounts for 1% of India's total textile and apparel export value in 2007-08. China being the major exporter to Japan in this field, shares over 70% of Japan's total textile and apparel imports, in accordance to the CITI/Texprocil report. Caption: Textile and apparel industry contributes 4% to India's GDP To facilitate the trade, India's Union Minister for Textiles Dayanidhi Maran led a delegation to Japan last July, with representatives of Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC), the Texprocil, the Synthetic and Rayon Textiles Promotion Council (SRTEPC), Knitwear Technology Mission, and leading textiles manufacturers and exporters from Tirupur and Coimbatore textiles clusters. Effective from January 2010, the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between India and the ASEAN paves the way for the creation of one of the world's largest free trade areas, of almost 1.8 billion people with a combined GDP of US$2.75 trillion, the ASEAN Secretariat stated. Under the agreement, tariffs on more than 80% of total imported goods will be reduced to zero by 2013, and another small proportion of goods will be given zero tariff by 2016, involving totally over 4,000 product items. India and ASEAN targeted to achieve bilateral trade of US$50 billion by 2010 from US$40 billion in 2007-08, the Indian Department of Commerce said. 亞洲市場概覽——中國 中國紡織業景氣度回升 Chinese textile industry indexes are rebounding 根據4月28日最新發布的中經紡織產業景氣指數報告顯示,2010年一季度,中國紡織產業繼續保持良好運行態勢,其中,中經紡織行業景氣指數為97.9點(景氣標准為100點),比上季度上升0.8點;中經服裝制造業景氣指數為98.9點(景氣標准為100點),比上季度上升0.4點;中經化纖行業景氣指數為99.6點(景氣標准為100點),比上季度上升0.9點。三個行業的景氣狀況都有所上升。 數據表明,去年中國政府實施的紡織振興政策,對紡織行業的運行產生了持續的積極影響,同時,紡織行業市場同步向好,中經紡織行業預警指數快速反彈;中經服裝制造業預警指數逐漸偏離偏冷區域,行業發展前景繼續向好;中經化纖行業預警指數自去年二季度探底反彈後不斷上升,已連續3個季度呈現持續上升態勢,紡織業實現了良好開局。 去年國際需求下降,拖累整體行業下滑 而就在去年,受美國金融危機所傳導,中國出口增長減速,其中主要集中在傳統勞動密集型企業,最典型的是出口佔相當比重的中國紡織服裝業隨着大環境的惡化,受到嚴重衝擊。 圖:中國紡織業人士希望了解各類新技術。 統計顯示,中國紡織品服裝全年出口交貨值同比下降3.23%。其中,紡織業同比下降6.19%;服裝業同比上升2.77%;化纖制造業同比下降22%;紡織專用制造設備業同比下降27.89%。 政策鼓勵產業升級 去年,中國政府發布系列產業調整和振興規划,倡導行業結構調整、轉變發展方式,正如中國紡織經濟研究中心主任孫淮濱所說:“把結構調整放在突出的地位,事關紡織業持續發展能力,更體現了紡織業發展的主流和方向。” 按照紡織工業調整和振興規划確定的目標,2009~2011年,中國紡織工業生產保持平穩增長,產業結構進一步優化,自主創新能力、技術裝備水平、品種質量有明顯提高,產業布局趨於合理,自主品牌建設取得較大突破,落後產能逐步淘汰,邁出了由紡織大國向紡織強國轉變的實質性步伐。 2009年,作為結構調整重要內容的產業轉移給紡織服裝企業帶來了新的發展機遇。中國紡織工業協會統計數據顯示,去年前10個月,安徽、江西、河南、湖北、湖南、重慶、四川等中西部七省市紡織行業固定資產投資為826億元人民幣,佔全國的34.1%,而2007年這些地區全年的投資只佔全國當年投資的28%左右。中西部地區投資比重的提高,充分說明中國紡織產業轉移進程加快的特征明顯。隨着中西部地區承接紡織服裝業梯度轉移取得顯著成效,紡織業布局得到了優化。 推進創新 贏得新發展 中國紡織工業協會會長杜鈺洲曾表示:“進一步發揮創新的帶動作用,對於全行業轉變發展方式,促進科技進步、技術改造和品牌建設,加快從紡織大國向紡織強國轉變具有重要意義。” 實現產業升級,要從採用先進適用技術改造傳統產業入手,進而提高紡織行業生產效率,改善產品結構,增強市場高效供給能力。統計數據顯示,2009年,工業和信息化部累計支持紡織行業技術改造項目324項,總投資320億元人民幣,其中中央財政資金支持13.3億元人民幣。 杜鈺洲會長還表示,由於加大了技術改造力度,提高了創新水平,行業內的骨乾企業普遍提高了品牌貢獻率和科技貢獻率。去年,中國紡織新產品產值的增幅高於生產總值增幅3.3個百分點;今年1~2月,則高出17.23個百分點。 ITMA Asia + CITME 2010 Show Guide 參觀指南

Regional updates – China China's textile and apparel industry backed by policies and domestic demand 中國紡織業受利好政策及內需支持 By Staff Reporters The Chinese textile and apparel industry was believed to regain its momentum considering the rebounded domestic prosperity indices. The China Textile Industry Index (growth in 2003=100 points) recorded 97.9 points in the first quarter (Q1) of 2010, advancing 0.8 point from the previous quarter. The indicator is composed jointly by a research center under Economic Daily of China and the China Economic Monitoring & Analysis Center at the National Bureau of Statistics. China's Apparel Industry Index reached 98.9 points (growth in 2005=100 points) in the Q1, or 0.4 point more from the previous quarter. Meanwhile, the China Chemical Fiber Industry Index stood at 99.6 points (growth in 2005=100 points), rising 0.9 point from the previous quarter. The data showed positive growth in these three sectors, which have been backed by the Chinese government's supportive measures and a relatively robust domestic consumer market. Overall, China's textile and apparel exports slid 3.23% in value in 2009. Textile exports dropped 6.19% from the previous year, whereas those of apparel expanded 2.77%. Declines in chemical fiber exports and textile machinery were also registered in 2009 at 22% and 27.89% respectively. Despite declines in exports, textile enterprises in China maintained growth due to increases in domestic sales of textile and apparel goods, according to Du Yuzhou, President of the China National Textile & Apparel Council (CNTAC). The outlook of 2010 is relatively complicated, according to another senior official at the CNTAC early this year. He explained that the international economic environment is likely to turn better this year, but the adverse impact of the global economic crisis had not vanished. Unemployment in major developed countries remains high, and consumer markets have not yet fully recovered. Uncertainties may arise in the international trade. New economic trends like development in low-carbon emissions and balanced economic growths have an important impact on the Chinese textile and apparel industry. Pictured is China-designed fashion Macro-economic climate in China is improving as the country continues its proactive and robust fiscal policy and moderately loose monetary measures, the textile and apparel industry is on the track of further structural adjustment. In addition, domestic consumer demand is expected to improve in 2010. All these are positive factors for the industry while inflation is a possible downside factor, the CNTAC official mentioned. Rural consumption on the rise Moreover, some apparel sellers have placed their hopes on the vast rural population in China. Per capita spending on apparel in China was RMB212 for rural residents and RMB 1,166 for urban dwellers in 2008. Regional updates –Pakistan Pakistan urged to aim higher with value-added products 巴基斯坦需提高產品附加值 by Ajay Sinha and Staff Reporters Pakistan has about 7.6% of spinning capacity in the Asian region and 5% share of the cotton yarn produced globally. It is the world's fourth largest producer and the third largest consumer of cotton, according to Pegasus Consultancy, show organizer of the Megatech Pakistan 2010 exhibition held this March. Internally, Pakistan's textile industry contributes nearly 8.5% to the gross domestic product (GDP) while employing 39% of the total manufacturing workforce. The textile industry contributes over half to the country's total exports with textile exports worth US$ 7.21 billion and garment exports worth US$ 3.25 billion in 2008. However, the global economic recession, which decreased demand for goods and services worldwide, had negatively impacted on demand levels in developed countries, the markets for the majority of Pakistan's exports. The textile industry lost over 5% of its export earnings (US$578 million) in FY2008/09, with readymade garments the hardest hit (-18%, or US$221 million), the ADB stated. It was observed that Pakistan specializes in the production and export of products at the lower end of the textile range, the ADB stated. In addition, the report identified another two major disadvantages that hold back the development of the textile and apparel sector, which are labour productivity and relationship with customer, mainly overseas buyers. The report cited the tariff issue as hindrance, but a secondary one, noting that its competitors have outperformed Pakistan in markets where there is tariff parity. Energy issues were found not a major obstruction as other countries also faced their own problem to supply electricity. Further, some suggestions were outlined in the report. Pakistan should increase average value of export from US$1,000 to US$2,000 per bale of cotton by focusing on value-addition. Secondly, it should raise productivity by investing in management training and organizational efficiencies. Thirdly, the implementation of measures in National Textile Policy 2009 in regard to the apparel sector is crucial to promote the industrial development. Lastly, the country can consider developing strategic relationships with large retail or buying houses or develop a convenient sourcing platform for buyers from abroad. Furthermore, it should address the incoming and outgoing travel restrictions, which remain an essential component for facilitating customer relationship, the report stated. Regional updates –Bangladesh Bangladesh's apparel industry competes with lower labour costs 孟加拉國服裝業以低廉勞工為競爭優勢 by Ajay Sinha and Staff Reporters Situated in South Asia adjacent to India, Bangladesh was ranked as the 48th largest economy in the world in terms of gross domestic product (GDP) by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in 2008. The country's per capita income was US$621 in the financial year (FY) of 2008-09, with a rise of US$62 compared to the previous year (2007-08), according to figures of the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS). The textile and apparel industry is one of the biggest sources of national economic revenue. About 75% of Bangladesh's total export earnings come from ready-made garment exports, according to experts at the World Bank. The major markets are North America and Europe. Ready-made garment made in the country are mainly divided into woven and knit products. Wovens are usually shirts, T-shirts and trousers, whereas knits from Bangladesh are mainly intimate wear, stockings, sweaters and casual wear. The apparel sector thereby grew phenomenally from US$3.5 million in 1981 to over US$10 billion per annum in recent years. In the previous fiscal year ended last June, Bangladeshi knitted and woven apparel exports reached US$12.35 billion, the government's Export Promotion Bureau said. Industry observers believed that as a number of Asian textile and apparel factories closed down partly due to higher wages and costs, some buyers shifted orders to new global sourcing destinations. Bangladesh was one of the beneficiaries. Looking ahead, Bangladesh has opportunities to boost apparel exports to the US and the EU countries where the demand for low cost apparel is increasing. However, it remains unsure how far the two major markets will improve their economies in 2010. Public policy is also crucial to boost Bangladeshi apparel industry. The government policy of liberalization of the economy encouraged private sector investments. Low cost energy and natural gas provides Bangladesh's textile industry with a competitive advantage in producing labor-intensive goods. A large domestic market is also an advantage for the country's apparel industry. Cheap and abundant labour forces have been an advantage for Bangladesh's apparel industry. Wage of the garment workers was last reviewed in 2006 to Tk 1662. With the rising living cost in these years and unrest among the workers during 2008 and 2009, a number of leading international buyers, including WalMart, H&M, Levis, Nike and Tesco, expressed concerns in early January over the issue of wages in the country. Global textile machinery associations – China CTMA: China textile machinery market picks up 中國紡機市場回升 by Joany Hao As the worst time of the global economic downturn faded away, the textile industry was on the track of recovery, fuelled by the picks-up of consumer sentiments in Europe and the US. China's textile machinery builders were also encouraged by the launch of supportive governmental plan (announced in April 2009) to adjust and strengthen the textile and garment industry in the years from 2009 to 2011. Further support is given to selective segments in the Chinese textile machinery industry under the latest directive announced in December 2009, which was formulated to achieve objectives lay down by the April 2009 plan. Under the recent directive, a number of textile machinery was selected as important areas for further development (More information can be found in ATA Journal Feb/Mar 2010 on page 42). Gao Yong, president of the China Textile Machinery Association (CTMA), shared his views on the current business environment in the country. ATA: ATA Journal Mr Gao: Gao Yong ATA: How do you look at the current textile industry in China? Mr Gao: Some economic indicators in the country's textile industry bounced back in the first few months of 2009 and we are looking forward to a positive future of the industry. Mr Gao: The global economy turned down in 2009 and the textile industry was negatively impacted. Against this background, the country rolled out a RMB 4-trillion massive economic package as well as numerous measures to encourage the domestic demand with substantial success. The Chinese textile industry is undergoing faster optimization to phase out obsolete capacity and to spur further technological upgrade. ATA: What's the significance holding the international textile machinery exhibition this year? Mr Gao: The year 2010 lies in the middle of the three-year plan (announced in April 2009) to readjust and revitalize the Chinese textile and textile machinery industries. Technologically upgrading the textile industry is expected to bring a new wave of opportunity to China's textile machinery manufacturers and the country will be a focal point of textile machinery builders from around the world. The market potential presented in China's textile industry has nurtured the second cooperation of ITMA Asia and CITME industrial exhibitions of textile machinery this year. The “readjustment and revitalization” plan of China has pinpointed selected fields in need of more technological progress, such as weaving, printing, dyeing and chemical fiber, as well as the development of high-tech fibers and industrial textiles. These expansionary measures have also given confidence to the international textile machinery builders in the feeble global economy. ATA: What value-added services are provided at this exhibition? Mr Gao: We are providing exhibitors more and better services. For instance, 18 items of free services are offered, compared to 15 in the previous edition. Newly added services include: free construction management fee of booth building; free booth indicator and free poster for exhibitors. Global textile machinery associations – France UCMTF: Positive prospects observed from late 2009 法國紡機業自去年底回復信心 Bruno Ameline, the President and Evelyne Cholet, the Secretary General of UCMTF (French Textile Machinery Manufacturers Association) shared their views on the present state of the French textile machinery manufacturers and analyze their strategy to bring value to their customers. Q: How were textile machinery manufacturers affected by the financial and economic crisis? Mr Ameline: The industrial equipment sector is extremely cyclical and our companies have to adapt to major investment phases like in 2006 and 2007 and to brutal stops but no one could have expected such the sudden crash that began in the summer of 2008. In 2009 our companies have seen their turnover go down by 30% on average with extreme as high as 50%. Caption: Bruno Ameline Q: How is the current sentiment among machinery manufacturers in Europe? Mr Ameline: I think the industry is on the road to recovery. Asian countries like China and India have already recovered, the US seems to emerge from the slump as Europe even if it is a bit slower here. We see warmer prospects since the end of 2009. Spare parts business is getting back to usual levels up which means the utilization of the existing production facilities has improved, orders for new machines also and many new projects are under discussion. I expect at least a 10% rebound in the first semester of 2010 compared with the very low figures of 2009 and a more robust rebound end of 2010 and in 2011. This general forecast need to be detailed and contrasted: - By region: the crisis was rather short in China and other Asian countries which started to recover as early as spring 2009, the US are expected to recover soon, Europe will follow. - By application sectors: technical textiles particularly the ones associated with infrastructure projects, the protection of the environment or energy savings will do better than textile for apparel and the home market. Q: How are the French textile machinery manufacturers well positioned to take advantage of the recovery? Mr Ameline: Generally speaking, our companies are well positioned for the future because even if, during the crisis, we have carefully managed our cash reserves, and continued to invest in R and D in close relationship or partnership with our clients all over the world. We also have worked very closely with machinery manufacturers offering complementary technologies to offer our customers a “single point of purchase”. More and more, our clients want to get a complete solution, shop for complete lines or even complete plants. We have understood this trend for several years and adapted our offer. Q: Do you feel competition from Asian machinery manufacturers will intensify? Ms Cholet: The Chinese machinery manufacturers have already an important market share on their national market and they are very active exporting, mainly in Asia. For high volume commodity products, Chinese and other Asian manufacturers offer low cost machines with short payback. We cannot compete on these markets but stick to our strategy of specialized manufacturers aiming at niche markets with a tailor made approach to address in depth customers' needs. Global textile machinery associations–Germany VDMA: German textile machinery industry is back on track 德國紡織機械制造業預期銷售增長 By Michelle Phong Sustainable textile production is highlighted and the German manufacturers are showing ways to substantial energy, water and material savings with pioneering technologies. About 105 exhibitors the German companies are exhibiting their latest innovations on an exhibition area of 5,000 square meters, representing the biggest European group within the CEMATEX countries, VDMA says. The association observed that Asia is a prime market of textile machinery. About 55% of the overall exports in 2009 representing 1.8 billion euros went to Asia. The two big volume markets alone, China and India, imported German textile machinery and accessories of about 628 and 161 million euros respectively. In January and February 2010, the exports to China rose 37% to 83 million euros compared to the same period the year before. Besides China, exports to other Asian countries were also positive: Iran 6.8 million euros (+50%), Thailand 4.1 million euros (+42%), Vietnam 1.7 million euros (+35%) and Bangladesh 2.7 million euros (+8%). Thomas Waldmann, Managing Director of the VDMA Textile Machinery Association, recently told ATA Journal that the German textile machinery builders had observed pick-ups in the market these months. ATA: What is the main technology to be shown by these exhibitors? Mr Waldmann: Today, energy efficiency and material efficiency are major challenges for textile producers, due to economic, legal as well as ecological reasons. The member companies of VDMA are addressing these topics during ITMA Asia by showing technologies that enable textile enterprises to reduce their electricity and water consumption substantially and to minimise spoilage and scrap. ATA: What are some good news for textile machinery builders in Germany so far this year? Mr Waldmann: The good news is definitely that after two years of an extreme downturn, the German textile machinery industry is back on track again. The demand from China, for example, picked up since the middle of 2009, and demands from India rebounded in the end of 2009. The predicted turnover for the German textile machinery branch sees an increase of 30-35% in 2010. ATA: What are some possible concerns for the textile machinery industry? Mr Waldmann: Financing of investments will remain a challenge for the textile industry in the time ahead - a result of the global financial crisis. Obstacles for the textile industry do affect the business of machinery manufacturers. Protectionist tendencies could also slow down the machinery as well as the textile business. Interview with exhibitors Trützschler groups five companies under same roof 特呂茨施勒集團聯展其五公司 Five companies of the Trützschler group are for the first time exhibiting under one roof at the fair (Hall W2 stand C03). The 500-square-metre stand is providing information in the areas of preparation machines for spinning, nonwoven machinery and clothings for cards and roller cards. In the area of Trützschler Spinning, represented by Trützschler Germany and Truettzschler Textile Machinery (Shanghai), the main emphasis is on a new and more effective foreign part detection and separation system. The premium machine of the Trützschler foreign part separators is the Securoprop SP-FPU. Among other things, Trützschler Card Clothing is showcasing the new cylinder clothing FGX1 for spinning, which results in quality improvements for combed yarns, even with older cards and lower production rates, the company says. In addition, Trützschler Nonwovens offers customary bonding technologies for nonwovens, from needling, aqua-jet entangling all the way to chemical and thermal bonding methods. Travel information Multi-faced city life of Shanghai shown by eight attractions 上海新舊文化薈萃:新滬上八景 Eight attractions, natural or man-made architecture, represent the city's dynamic culture, rich history and robust development. They have been selected following a survey of over 33,700 respondents from all walks of life in Shanghai last year The Bund ­- Zhongshan Road The Bund on the riverbank of Huangpu is home of various historical buildings demonstrating “world architecture” in Shanghai. A river cruise can take you through this glamorous part of Shanghai, which had its first golden days in the 1920s. Yuyuan Garden - 218 Anren Road Finished in 1577 by a government officer of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) named Pan Yunduan, the 20,000-square-meter Yuyuan Garden is a famous classical garden located in Shanghai. After a five-year restoration project, the garden was open to the public in 1961. Lujiazui - Pudong Lujiazui is the newly developed financial area of Pudong in Shanghai. A number of landmarks were built on this new land of the city, such as Shanghai World Financial Center and the Oriental Pearl TV Tower. Shanghai World Financial Center, located at 100 Century Avenue, Pudong, is one of the highest skyscrapers in China. It is currently the third-tallest building in the world. The Oriental Pearl TV Tower, meanwhile, is one of the most recognizable landmarks in Shanghai. At 468 meters high, it was the tallest structure in China from 1994–2007. Shanghai shopping streets - Nanjing Road pedestrian walkway The 1,033-meter-long pedestrian walkway of Nanjing Road is marked by the Bund and the People's Square on both ends. More than 600 shops are available on both sides of the walkway and it is a reflection of the growing affluence of the Chinese consumers. Shikumen or stone gate Shikumen or stone-gate houses on narrow alleys of a road were a hallmark of old Shanghai. An area of stone-gate houses adjacent to Xintiandi become the finest example of blending the old and the new in the rapidly growing city of China. Xintiandi itself is a privately developed area known for its fine dining, active nightlife and entertainment. Fengjing town of water Off the bustle and hustle of Shanghai city area, visitors can enjoy a quieter afternoon in one of the “towns of water” near Shanghai. With a history of more than 1,500 years and once a key connection between Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces, Fengjing town is filled with bridges, temples and lanes. Dianshan lake resort area - Dianshan Lake Area, Qingpu District The area is a nationally top-rated scenic spot with an ancient grandeur garden and other historic relics. Religious culture - Jade Buddha Temple 170 Anyuan Road Being a Buddhist temple, Jade Buddha Temple was founded in 1882 with two jade Buddha statues imported from old Burma by sea in the Qing Dynasty. Shanghai Expo runs for 184 days between May 1 and October 31 and is predicted to attract around 70 million visitors. Several kinds of tickets are available, allowing visitors to admit the expo for one single day, three consecutive days and seven consecutive days. The standard prices range around RMB 100-700 on normal days. Tickets during the peak periods are more expensive, i.e. days during the holidays of May 1 and October 1. Evening admission tickets are sold during the Expo session. How to get there? By car No parking lots for private cars are set up in the Site and its immediate vicinity. Only vehicles with Expo passes are allowed in. To ease traffic around the Site, 31 new one-way routes are added. Five major P+R (park and ride) lots at Shanghai International Circuit, Hongqiao Transport Hub and Songjiang District will accommodate 10,000 cars. By metro Five Metro lines arrive near the Expo Site, with the still-under-construction Line 13 taking passengers to three stations within the site: two on the Puxi side and one in Pudong. Line 13, which has three stations, will run at six-minute intervals and about three-minute intervals during peak periods. Expo ticket holders can take the trains free after security checks at the Madang Road Station, where it connects with Line 9 in Puxi. The six-carriage trains can carry 40,000 passengers per hour. Lines 4, 6, 7, 8 and 9 are expected to carry 100,000 riders per hour to nine stations near the Site during peak times. The lines run until midnight. Free shuttle buses take people between the stations and Site. The taxis will offer services to people inside the Site where private cars are off-limits. The Site will be open to other taxis after 9 pm. National pavilions At the Shanghai World Expo, visitors can explore numerous country pavilions built in splendid designs. Travel information Crown”. After two years’ work, the construction finished this February. Its main color is “Gugong (Forbidden City) Red” which represents the taste and spirit of Chinese culture. Its main structure includes a six-layer, 30-meter-high roof made of traditional wooden brackets. The 56 brackets symbolize the nation's 56 minority ethnic groups. Below the main structure, there is a 45,000-square-meter joint pavilion featuring displays from local provinces, cities and regions. The 160,000-square-meter pavilion will be converted into a museum for Chinese history and culture after the Expo closes. Germany The 6,000-square-meter structure is Germany's largest at any Expo. The theme of the pavilion is “Balancity”. It demonstrates the importance of balance between modernization and preservation, innovation and tradition, community and the individual, work and leisure, and between globalization and national identity. Travel information France The “Sensual City” itself is impressive with a large, classical roof garden and a pond. The walls of the square-shaped structure, which is made from a special concrete, are covered in plants and it looks like a white floating palace. Gardens are the centerpiece of the pavilion. Moreover, the French Pavilion appears to be a floating palace in the beauty rhyme with water. India The Indian pavilion, with around 4,000 square meters, has a crimson central dome, symbolizing the theme “Unity in Diversity” in India. A focus throughout the exhibit is on interaction between rural and urban areas through exchange of goods and services. Under a theme of “Cities of Harmony”, visitors can experience a journey of Indian cities from ancient times through medieval periods to modern India, as the pavilion showcases India’s rich cultural heritage, its diversity of faith, culture and language, traditional and modern technological development and urban-rural interface. Italy The design of the Italian Pavilion, themed “City of Man”, is inspired by the children’s game “pick-up sticks”, which is known as “Shanghai” in Italy. The rectangular pavilion has been laced with intersecting lines - representing pick-up sticks. It comprises 20 functional modules of different shapes, bounded by the “sticks”. They represent Italy's 20 regions. Switzerland A combination of technological insight and beautiful dream, Swiss Pavilion shows the characteristics of modern Switzerland, including the pursuit of excellence, innovation and high-quality life, as well as concepts of future facing, forward looking and sustainable development. In a nutshell, it demonstrates the rural and urban interaction in the modern world. Hong Kong The three-story metallic structure explores the theme “Hong Kong - the Infinite City”. The exhibition focuses on the special administrative region's transport network, advanced scientific facilities, financial and trade systems, multinational culture and sustainable high-quality urban life. Highlights include environmental protection, tourism, culture, innovation and the “one country, two systems” principle.
